How Do I Know If God Is Speaking to Me?

One of the questions I hear most often is, "How do I know if God is speaking to me?"
Maybe you've asked it too.
I know I have.
When I first started seeking a deeper relationship with God, I wanted a clear answer. I wanted to know exactly what His voice sounded like and how I could recognize it every time He spoke.
What I discovered is that hearing God is often not what we expect.
Many people are looking for an audible voice, a dramatic sign, or a supernatural experience. While God can certainly speak however He chooses, most often He speaks through His Word.
Think about it. If we want to hear from God but never open our Bible, we're ignoring one of the primary ways He communicates with His people.
The more time we spend in Scripture, the more familiar we become with God's character, His promises, and His ways. We begin to recognize when something aligns with His Word and when it doesn't.
God also speaks through prayer.
Not just while we are talking, but while we are listening.
Sometimes we rush into prayer with a list of requests and rush right back out again. We never take time to sit quietly in His presence. Yet some of the most meaningful moments with God happen when we stop talking and start listening.
I have also learned that hearing God requires patience.
We live in a world that wants instant answers. You know the "Microwave Society," but God is often more interested in relationship than speed. Sometimes the answer comes quickly. Other times it comes through Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, or circumstances over time.
The question is not always, "Is God speaking?"
Perhaps the better question is, "Am I making room to listen?"
God is still speaking.
The challenge for many of us is slowing down long enough to hear Him.
What are some ways God has spoken to you through His Word, prayer, or everyday life?
