God Uses Ordinary People

Have you ever looked at someone and thought, "God could never use me the way He uses them"?

Maybe you've watched a pastor preach, listened to someone teach, or seen a person walking confidently in their calling and wondered what makes them different.

The truth is, when we read Scripture, we discover that God has always used ordinary people.

Moses was a shepherd. David was the youngest son in his family and wasn't even invited when Samuel came looking for Israel's next king. Peter was a fisherman. Gideon saw himself as the least in his family. None of them looked like the obvious choice.

Yet God chose them anyway.

I think sometimes we disqualify ourselves because we focus on what we don't have. We don't feel smart enough, experienced enough, confident enough, or spiritual enough. We wait until we feel ready, but often God is simply looking for someone who is willing.

One of the things I love about Scripture is that it doesn't hide people's weaknesses. We see their fears, mistakes, doubts, and failures. We see real people with real struggles. And through it all, we see a faithful God working in and through them.

That should encourage all of us.

God is not looking for perfect people. If He were, none of us would qualify. He is looking for hearts that are willing to trust Him and follow where He leads.

So if you've been questioning whether God can use you, remember this: throughout Scripture, God consistently chose ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

Maybe the reason is simple.

When God uses ordinary people, everyone knows the glory belongs to Him.

And that means He can use you too.
