Even If the Paycheck Stops, God Doesn't

Recently, I learned from the news that the BFGoodrich plant in Tuscaloosa will gradually close over the next few years. my heart went out to the men and women who now find themselves living with uncertainty.
I couldn't help but think about the questions that are probably running through their minds.
What happens next?
How will I provide for my family?
What if I just bought a home?
What if I finally got out of debt?
Those questions are understandable. Whether it's the possibility of losing a job, a difficult medical diagnosis, an unexpected financial setback, or another life-changing event, uncertainty has a way of capturing our attention.
Then I read Psalms 121. This chapter speaks directly to seasons like this.
That verse reminded me that our security has never been found in a company, a paycheck, a retirement account, or even our own plans. Those things are blessings from God, but they were never meant to become the foundation of our hope.
One thing I've noticed about human nature is that uncertainty often causes us to lean away from God instead of toward Him. Fear convinces us that we have to solve tomorrow's problems today. We begin carrying burdens that haven't even arrived while forgetting the One who already knows what tomorrow holds.
Trusting God doesn't mean we ignore reality. It doesn't mean we stop preparing, applying for jobs, or making wise financial decisions. It means we refuse to let fear become our foundation while continuing to trust the One who never changes.
Psalms 121 continues by reminding us that God neither slumbers nor sleeps. While we lie awake worrying about tomorrow, He is still watching over His children. He is still making a way where we cannot yet see one.
The body of Christ was never called to simply watch people struggle from a distance. We are called to pray, encourage, share resources, help meet practical needs, and remind one another of God's faithfulness. Sometimes God answers someone's prayer through another believer willing to serve.
If you are one of those facing uncertainty today, remember this: your employer has never been your ultimate source. It has been one of the ways God has chosen to provide. If that changes, the Source has not.
And if you are not walking through this season yourself, ask the Lord how you can be His hands and feet to someone who is.
Our community may be walking through a season of uncertainty, but uncertainty does not mean God has stopped working. Long before we can see the path ahead, He is already there making a way.
Even if the paycheck stops, God doesn't.
He doesn't stop providing.
He doesn't stop caring.
He doesn't stop working.
And He certainly doesn't stop being faithful.
Lift your eyes.
Your help comes from the Lord.
