Standing at the Edge of His Goodness

A couple of weeks ago, me and Ed were in Panama City Beach, Florida. One afternoon, we were just sitting on the beach talking. There was no agenda. We were not in a hurry to get anywhere. We were simply enjoying the moment and taking in God's creation.

Since Ed cannot see, I started describing what I was looking at. I told him how beautiful the sky was that day. It was a bright blue with big white clouds scattered across it. I also described the color of the water as we were standing in it, just enough for our feet to get wet, and now and then seagulls would fly overhead. It was peaceful. It was one of those moments where you stop and appreciate everything God has made.

As we sat there, our conversation shifted.

We started talking about the waves. How they come in and then go right back out. They would come only so far before turning around and heading back

Then one of us asked a simple question.

"What is actually holding all that water back?"

The more we thought about it, the more amazed we became.

Yes, people can explain tides. They can explain the moon's gravitational pull and how the water rises and falls. I have no problem with that. But to me, science explains how it

happens.

It does not explain Who established it.

We Both Said It has to be the Hand of God holding it back

In the book of Job it says, "When I said, 'This far you may come, but no farther, and here your proud waves must stop!'" (Job 38:11, NKJV)

That verse took on a whole new meaning while we sat there watching the waves. Every wave was doing exactly what God had commanded it to do thousands of years ago.

Then our conversation turned to tsunamis.

Have you ever seen pictures of them? Some tsunami waves can rise over one hundred feet high. As I looked at the buildings along the beach. Some of them were massive 12-15 story buildings, yet they were not even as tall as a 100-foot tsunami. Just imagining water rising higher than those buildings was enough to remind us of the incredible power it holds.

Yet every single day, God keeps the sea within the boundaries He established.

Think about that.

The same God who created the oceans is the same God who tells them where to stop.

The same God who holds back the sea is the same God who holds the stars in place.

The same God who commands creation is the same God who watches over you and me.

Sitting on that beach reminded me that God's goodness is not only seen in the big miracles we pray for. It is seen in the everyday things we often overlook. It is in the sunrise. It is in the birds flying overhead. It is in the beauty of the sky. It is in every wave that reaches the shore and quietly obeys the voice of its Creator.

Sometimes we become so focused on what we want God to do next that we miss what

He is already showing us.

Creation is constantly pointing us back to Him.

Romans 1:20 says that God's invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—are clearly seen through what He has made. All you have to do is look around.

People can believe whatever they want to believe, but you cannot convince me there is not a God.

When I look at creation, I do not see an accident. I see order. I see beauty. I see power. I see purpose.

And sitting there on that beach with Ed, talking about the waves, the sky, and the goodness of God, I was reminded once again that the Creator is still holding everything together—including me.

Maybe today you need that reminder too.

Slow down.

Look around.

Listen.

Creation has been declaring the glory of God all along.

Sometimes we are just moving too fast to notice.
